Review: K on the Go in Union City

Hello all! I have decided to start a blog to do more in-depth reviews on various places I’ve visited while wearing lolita or other Jfashion.

As I live in Northern California, most reviews will be for places there, though occasionally other places I visit will show up!

I was inspired to do a reviews in my blog by Shannon of Wear your Bows. Definitely go check her blog out for even more reviews!

For my first ever post, I’ll be reviewing K On The Go in Union City, CA.

K on the Go is located in a strip mall with lots of parking. The inside was very small so I recommend going here for smaller meetups. Though there was seating for maybe 18ish people, it may feel very crowded at that amount of patrons. They seem to offer boba and pastries as well as an afternoon tea experience.

The decor is very Instagrammable with lots of flowers and chandeliers and somewhat of a modern feel with just a touch of the kitschy feel of an average tea room. At the time of my visit in early February, there were super cute Lunar New Year decorations here and there, such as red envelopes and a Lion dance mask hanging with the flowers. Reservations were a little tricky to find as they weren't on Google, but through a link on their Instagram.

The music playing seemed to be viral hits from TikTok at a slightly too loud volume, which made the atmosphere seem more casual rather than the either fancy/high end or granny-like vibes you get at the usual afternoon tea establishment.

Ambiance: 3.5/5

I went with my fiancé for a special Valentine’s tea. Each person is allowed to choose 3 savory items from a menu they email you. I went with a smoked salmon with caper creme fraiche sandwich, a chicken salad sandwich, and an avocado toast. The salmon and chicken fillings for my sandwiches were well-seasoned, delicious, and very moist. The bread, however, seemed like it had been sitting out for awhile maybe? It seemed stale. The avocado toast had honey on it I think, which was a delicious twist. My fiance chose the crab bun, mini reuben, and the Banh Mi board, all of which he throughly enjoyed.

Savories: 3.5/5

There was a delicious blueberry scone with crunchy sugar bits on the outside. However, there was no clotted cream or lemon curd which I usually look forward to at tea.

The desserts were Valentine's day themed, with one heart-shaped macaron and petit four. There was also a mini blueberry cheesecake and a small glass of a mousse desert.

Desserts: 4/5

When we were sent an email to choose our savories and tea selection a few days before the reserved date, we were told to choose two tea flavors. However, after arriving, we were told it was one pot/flavor per 2 people. I didn't fuss over that, but it was slightly confusing. We chose the berries and rose flavor which was very delicious especially with cream and sugar. Usually I don't use cream and sugar in tea but this flavor was wonderful with a touch of both. It wasn't overly fruity nor floral, it seemed like the perfect balance. Refills were prompt and free.

Tea: 4.5/5

Staff was very kind to us. We were promptly seated even though we were about 10 minutes early. K on the Go in Union City is still fairly new and has some very minor things to iron out (forgetting napkins and plates but getting us some as soon as they realized), but they are very sweet.

Staff: 4.5/5

The price was fairly reasonable for an afternoon tea service in the Bay Area. The price for each person was $45 plus a 15% gratuity fee. The amount of food you get is perhaps less than the average tea service, but for the price, I think it's okay. I left feeling the perfect amount of fullness, not over stuffed.

Price: 4.5/5

Overall, this was a cute and more casual tea experience. I think it's perfect for small meets or hanging out with friends.

Overall rating: 4/5

Here's the coord I wore for tea! I went for an Usakumya/Kumakumya couples vibe. They are both on the front of the cardigan though it's a bit hard to see, they're both in my backpack, and my earrings and necklace are Kumyas!
